The Bohlmann Database search interface uses a Java Applet for chemical structure search. In order to use it, your browser must have cookies enabled and allow Java applets to be run. On first use, you may get a brief installation dialogue first to install Java and grant extended privileges to the applet. Both are necessary for the applet to function correctly. Depending on your Internet connection, you will possibly have to be very patient in case Java has to be downloaded.

We recommend using recent versions of Netscape (version 6 or later), Mozilla, or MS Internet Explorer from version 5. Although otherwise a viable option, Opera (version 7) was not found to cooperate in a satisfactory way with the Java applet. Let us know about your experience.

Please understand that not all possible combinations of operating system flavors, browser makes, versions, Java virtual machines and individual configurations can ever be exhaustively covered by even the most ambitious testing. Especially as regards the correct functioning of the embedded Java applet, we have experienced a number of glitches which we ascribe mainly to certain browsers not integrating well with some Java virtual machines. If you experience repeated failure of the applet to display correctly or browser crashes, you may want to consider installing a more recent browser version or an updated Java virtual machine (most preferrably Sun's JVM from version 1.4.2 or better).
